Event Description

Fairlington switches to a summer schedule for the Sundays in August through Labor Day.  We will have one worship service at 10 a.m. and no Sunday School.  Following worship, outside the Sanctuary in the breezeway, hang around for ice cream, popsicles and lemonade and conversation! Please come! Thank you to Kathy McGarril and Sue Gunter for serving ice cream today!

Families are invited to worship together at our child-friendly service each Sunday. The service is especially designed to foster interaction and participation of children in the worship service.

As always, the Nursery will be available for all children through age 2 and there will be Children's Church for children age 3-7.

Reconciling News

Pizza and a Movie! On Sunday night, July 16 at 6:00pm in the Fellowship Hall, we will show the documentary film “An Act of Love.” This 90-minute award winning film tells the story of the Rev. Frank Schaefer’s fight for LGBTQ inclusion in the United Methodist Church. Rev. Schaefer had his ministerial credentials revoked in December 2013 after officiating his son’s same-sex wedding; they were later reinstated upon appeal.  See  http://www.anactoflovefilm.com for more information about the film.  Contact: Mark Elder markuselder@gmail.com. This event is free and no RSVP is required, please come!

Conversations on a Way Forward  Sunday, April 9 from 3:00 to 4:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. You are invited for conversation and an update on the Bishops’ Commission on a Way Forward, facilitated by Dave Nuckols, a Commission member. The Commission on a Way Forward was proposed by the Council of Bishops and approved by the 2016 General Conference (our denomination’s legislative body). It is tasked --to do a complete examination and possible revision of every paragraph of the UMC’s Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality; -- as well as explore options that will help maintain and strengthen the unity of the church. Tthe Commission’s work is tentatively scheduled to result in a called General Conference in 2019, that will determine the way forward and structure of our denomination. For more information, see the Commision website: http://www.umc.org/who-we-are/commission-on-a-wayforward. For other questions about this event, contact Mark Elder at markuselder@gmail.com.
