From Pastor Mary Beth: "Giving Up Expectations"

What expectations do you have for your life? To be healthy and have no major illnesses? To have your children outlive you? To be in a meaningful long-term relationship until “death do us part?” To never lose your job? To be happy? It is obvious that many of our expectations through life are not fulfilled. Our deepest…See More

From Pastor Devon ~ Giving Up Control

In sixth grade my parents signed me up for sailing camp. On a sweltering, humid, Virginia summer day, I gathered with the other middle schoolers anxious to get out on the water for our first day of camp. Each of us had been assigned our individual Sunfish sailboats, and the counselors had given us instructions on how to steer and pull in the sail to catch the wind, as…See More

From Pastor Mary Beth ~ "Paying Attention"

Amy Oden, in God’s Welcome, tells a story from the ancient desert mothers and fathers of the 3rd century. A novice asked the teacher, “Holy one, is there anything I can do to make myself closer to God?”  The elder replied, “As little as you can do to make the sun rise in the morning.” The novice responded, “Then of what use…See More

Coloring - A Spirituality Workshop at Fairlington UMC Room 110

February 11, 2018 from 9:30am to 10:30pm
Recently, coloring has gained huge popularity among adults as a way to step out of the daily grind and find peace. Coloring allows us to enter the safe sanctuary of our inner child and reclaim our God-given gift of creativity. Contemplative coloring provides an opportunity to look inward so that we may discern how to be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world. We will explore four different methods of prayer - lectio divina, intercessory prayer, centering prayer, and ignatian examen -…See More

From Pastor Mary Beth: "Always Better Together"

One day this fall, when people were doing projects at the church, I came across Mary and Barbara. They were working together sorting through costumes and making plans for the upcoming pageant. I often notice these two getting things done, partnering to create worship visuals, banners, and costumes for worship. They plan,…See More

Reconciling Notes

Download Here: Our 5 Year History as a Reconciling Congregation

We celebrate Fairlington's 5-year anniversary of becoming a Reconciling Congregation, intentionally welcoming all people as beloved children of God.

Our celebratory theme, “Love in All Colors,” reflects the breadth and diversity of God’s human creation as proclaimed in our church’s welcoming statement.

Check out our audio for personal testimonies from FUMC members. They share how being part of a reconciling congregation has personally affected them and shaped their faith journey.
