We need food to live. Our bodies are nourished by proteins, fats, carbohydrates, water, vitamins and minerals. Without each of these elements, we get sick. Without food after a period of a few weeks, we die.
There’s that. And then there’s the joy of eating. Not all, but many of us have the privilege of eating a variety of delicious foods. It’s something we look forward to each day. What did you eat today that you enjoyed? What’s your favorite food?
And then there’s this. Food shows up a lot in the Bible, and becomes a metaphor for spiritual nourishment. Jesus took bread and blessed it: “This is my body.” What are you hungry for in your spirit? Are you being nourished in your faith journey? We are setting the table at Fairlington for all who are hungry. Join us this Sunday for the beginning of our series on food and faith.
