We think we understand hunger. Little children with bloated stomachs in far away countries appear on our TV screens. Fund raising letters from aid organizations invite us to adopt hungry children who we will never meet. But hunger has many faces and it’s closer than we imagine.
Recent reports indicate that 36% of students at 66 colleges and universities do not get enough to eat (Caitlin Dewey, The Washington Post). One student lost 7 pounds his first year of college, sometimes stretching a can of SpaghettiO’s over an entire day.
