The church has always been a presence in my life. Some of my earliest memories are of Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Children’s Church. Then came Confirmation, and serving as an acolyte and coming to worship. In all of this, I came to realize that the Holy Spirit was always with me.
As a teenager, I struggle most days to wake up and get out of bed and get going. However, one of my biggest motivators is that God is telling me that I have a purpose and that there is a reason I should get up. Throughout the day, I often feel the Holy Spirit filling me and urging me onward. A clear example was this past weekend when I was competing with my crew team in the Virginia State Championships.
We pulled up to the starting line, and I quietly prayed that the race would go smoothly and that we would be able to win.. After a rough start, I could feel the tension in the boat, with the general attitude of “this is over”. However, we kept working together and moved from last place to first place. It was great winning the race, but what also impacted me was the calm and peace I felt after I prayed. Another reminder of God’s presence in my life, and the power that God gives each of us to lift ourselves up in the most difficult moments.
