Children's Sunday School: 9:30 am to 10:30 am

SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

All children and youth  from two years to Senior High are invited to Sunday School at 9:30 am each week.  Two-year-olds may attend Sunday School beginning the Sunday following their second birthday. All other children are placed in classes according to their birthdays, following the guidelines for Virginia public schools, i.e. they must be three, four or five by October 1.

All Pre-school and Kindergarten classes meet on the main floor of the church building in the Education Wing. Elementary grades and Youth classes are on the third floor in the Education Wing.  A Sunday School greeter outside the church parlor will direct you to your class.

Two-year olds: Room 211:
Twos will hear about going to church, Baby Moses, and how to thank God. The class is led by Martha Balis-Larsen, Jennifer Mastin, and Linda Scheid.

Three-year olds: Room 210
Three year olds will hear stories of Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Esau, and Joseph and his brothers, all from the Old Testament. The threes are led by Kathy Richards and Nancy Ruel.

Four year olds: Room 212
Four year olds will also hear the same Old Testament stories as the threes. This class will be led by Cindi Schieber, Mat Morey, and Denise Taylor.

Kindergarten Class: Room 213
Kindergarteners will hear the stories of God's promise to Abraham, Issac and Rebekah, Jacob's ladder, and Joseph and his brothers. Valri and Tony Berkoff lead this class.

POWERED BY FAITH: ROTATIONAL SUNDAY SCHOOL

This new approach to Sunday School allows elementary aged children (1st through 5th grades) to explore Bible stories in many different ways-the different ways that they learn. This approach engages them in the stories in many ways, which reinforce each story for better retention. This year they will meet with their shepherd on the first Sunday, Sept. 11, in Room 308, at 9:30, and go with the shepherd to a classroom for all to get to know each other and prepare for the Sunday School year. Starting Sept. 11, they will go directly to their learning station-locations will be posted in the hallway as last year-where station leaders will teach the Bible story through art, storytelling, science, music, and computers. Their first unit will  be on People Who Made a Difference, Deborah, Jeremiah, the woman at the well, and the Roman centurion.

Learning Stations are as follows:
Room 309                    Art Station
Room 310                    Music Station
Room 311                    Science Station
Room 312                    Computer Station
Room 313                    Storytelling/Video Station

Sixth and Seventh Grades                Room 302
These young teens will study Bible stories of Old Testament people, including Abraham and Lot, Jacob, Joseph, Deborah and Saul. Scott Jenkins leads the class.

Eighth Grade                                     Room 303
These teens will be looking toward their confirmation by exploring the basic beliefs of Christianity. Leslie Cameron and Amy Mertzeis lead the class.

Ninth through Twelfth Grades           Room 306
Older teens explore what God's purpose is for them as they move toward adulthood. Laura Lee Dooley and Diane Beaver lead this class.

CHILDREN'S CHURCH

Threes to Kindergartners Room 210
First and second graders Room 309

Each Sunday morning, during the 11:00 o'clock Worship Service, the pastors have a time of sharing with the children of the church. Following this time, children between three and seven years of age or second grade, are invited to attend Children's Church for an experience that helps prepare them to understand and participate in the regular worship service.  Children's Bulletins and Worship Bags, containing activities for the children to do during the service, are available from an usher as you enter the sanctuary.  For more information on all children's ministries contact Val Berry, director of Christian Education at 703-671-8557, or val@fairlingtonumc.org.
