Join us in the Chapel to watch the 2023 documentary 1946: The Mistranslation that Shifted Culture. There are two offerings: 1) Sunday November 17 at Noon, immediately following worship, and 2) Wednesday night November 20 at 7pm. The 90 minute documentary examines how mistranslations of the term homosexuality in Biblical texts starting in 1946 fueled LGBTQ discrimination and bias among Christians. The film includes commentary from scholars and opposing pastors. FUMC has not offered a discussion on the Bible and homosexuality since we became a reconciling congregation in 2013. This documentary offers a unique opportunity to explore Biblical understanding of sexuality, which may be helpful for newer as well as long-time members. Given the stance of our denomination post-General Conference, it is also timely to reacclimate ourselves to Biblical interpretations that are consistent with an inclusive church. Light snacks will be available at each viewing! For those interested, there will be a few minutes available to discuss the film.
